Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.
I have this quote taped to my computer screen at work. It looks me in the face every day, and I try to hone in on the meaning every time I read it.
At work is where I need this reminder lately. Morale is down after a region wide notice of no salary increases for the second year in a row. There's also the pressure to retain business while hustling to bring in new business; however most of us in my office are not in a sales role.
So the quote is my personal reminder that I can still do something. I'm trying to make the most of my current position, mostly by staying positive. I always start my day with music; it's on while I'm getting ready for work and then blaring the whole 50 minute commute in. Recently I'm even plugging earbuds in and listening while working. Music has always been a huge part of my life and what makes me feel better!
I've also got a group of coworkers who have become great friends outside of our cubicles. We laugh as much as possible on our lunch break, go out from time to time on the weekend and make light of our situation with hilarious/sarcastic memes lol
We're all fortunate to be employed, and for a company where there is security. I've been let go from a job before, and my initial reaction, besides shock, was relief because I thought the company was going out of business and I was absolutely miserable there anyway. It's still something I never want to experience again in my life! So I remain grateful.
The mindset I'm trying to focus on is, although the situation isn't ideal, I'm going to make the most of it. I don't want the 40ish hours per week to drain my soul and negatively affect the rest of hours in my life each week!
I feel that if I can personally change my reaction/attitude in an environment that is not ideal, that at least I'm taking control of my own life and making the best of it!
Are you making the most of your 90%?!
